Hollywood celebrities frequently attract a lot of public attention because of their glitzy, extravagant lifestyles. However, other people—like the late Hollywood actor Sam Elliott—have gained notoriety for quite another reason: demonstrating to the world that genuine love is real.
Sam Elliott’s true love, Katharine Ross, was a married, successful actress when they first met. Elliott, on the other hand, experienced love at first sight and realized he would need to exercise patience.
Sam Elliott, who is currently 77 years old, has been wed to Katharine Ross for a minimum of three long decades and counting.
There are undoubtedly a lot of female fans of Sam Elliott in the world. However, the Hollywood hottie has his sights set on just one woman: Katharine Ross, his wife of nearly forty years.
In fact, Sam and Katharine’s devoted bond looks like it belongs in a romantic Hollywood film.
Elliott later told AARP The Magazine, “I didn’t dare try to talk to her then,” because he was too nervous to approach her at the time. She took center stage. I felt like a glorified extra in a bar scene, a shadow on the wall.
Elliott was enamored with Ross right away, but he didn’t dare talk to her until they crossed paths again in 1978 while working on The Legacy.
They clicked right away, and six years later they tied the knot.
Ross separated from her former marriage in 1979, and the two were married in 1984.
At the time, Elliott had never been married, whereas Ross, who is five years Elliott’s senior, was married to her fourth spouse.
Elliott and Ross brought their daughter Cleo Rose into the world the year they were married.
Ross probably couldn’t have been as confident about how well her fifth marriage (!) would go given her lengthy history of unhappy marriages, but three decades later, she can be convinced that she made the correct choice.
“We strive to be united, but we also share a shared sensibility. You don’t just walk away from the s–t; you work past it. That’s how partnerships endure, according to Elliott.
Elliott and Ross even got to see each other on film as husband and wife, which was a desire they’d shared throughout their relationship. They succeeded in doing so twice: in Love Letters, which Elliott refers to as the pinnacle of his career, and in The Hero.
So how can Elliott account for the prosperity of the couple?
He states that they have achieved this “through mutual love and a mutual respect,” noting that Ross is “a pretty stable girl who has been around the block.”
In the end, persistence is essential: Elliott told the San Francisco Chronicle, “There are peaks and valleys like everything else, but you have to push on.”
