I had never seen a dog with such a huge belly.
The shelter received an urgent call about a sick stray dog, that needed immediate help.
When the rescuers arrived, even they were s.h σcked by what they saw.
A month earlier, the dog’s belly had been much smaller. At first, people thought she was p.r ℮gnant.
But over time, her stomach kept growing, until it looked like a balloon.
Despite everything, she remained gentle and affectionate. It was clear, she had once belonged to someone.
A quick examination showed, that she was about one year old.
Her legs were weak, and could no longer support her properly.
Even in such a serious condition, she stayed calm and friendly.
The rescuers understood, that she might not survive the trip. So they began treatment right there.
The fluid in her abdomen, had likely been building up for months.
Her condition was severe, and the chances of recovery were low.
Still, she trusted the people helping her. As the procedure began, she remained calm and cooperative.
The fluid that came out, was dark, a sign of how serious her condition was.
More and more fluid was drained.
A full basin, and then even more. As the pressure eased, she finally relaxed.
For the first time in a long while, she was able to rest.
By the end of the first treatment, her belly was noticeably smaller.
She was then taken to the shelter.
A long recovery awaited her. The treatment would take months, and require constant care.
But no one was willing to give up on her. After the first month, her condition improved.
By the second month, she became stronger.
By the third month, she was recovering well. Step by step, she returned to life.
From barely being able to move, to walking again with strength.
Today, she is happy and full of life.
Many dogs with this c.o חdition are a.b αndoned, because treatment is expensive.
But she was lucky. She was given a second chance. And this time, she didn’t lose it.
