I was cleaning the pool early this morning when I suddenly noticed something strange moving in the water. At first, I thought it was just a piece of debris drifting around… but then it moved again.
I took a closer look and saw this long, thin “tail” attached to a small, swollen body. It honestly looked like some kind of tiny alien creature. I scooped it up with the net and just sat there staring at it, trying to figure out what I was looking at.
For a moment, I even wondered if it could be something d.a חgerous. It didn’t look like any insect I’d seen before, and the way it moved in the water made it even more unsettling.
I spent almost an hour searching online, comparing photos, and reading different guesses. Some people said it might be a parasite, others thought it was some kind of w.o ŕm… but none of it felt quite right.
Then I finally found the answer—and it was surprisingly simple.
👉 It’s actually a rat-tailed maggot — the larva of a hoverfly. That long “tail” is just a breathing tube it uses to survive in water.
