Tonight, I went into my girlfriend’s bathroom to wash my hands, and suddenly I noticed this strange little object lying on the floor. At first, I thought it was just a piece of dried dirt or maybe some kind of old piece of wood that had somehow gotten inside.
I picked it up carefully and started looking at it from different angles. It was surprisingly hard and covered in tiny bits of what looked like dust, fibers, and little pieces of debris. The more I looked at it, the stranger it seemed. 🤔
I called my girlfriend over and asked if she knew what it was. She had no idea either. We spent the next hour looking at it, turning it around and trying to figure out how something like this could have ended up on the bathroom floor.
I even started wondering if it was some kind of insect nest or cocoon. 🐛 The shape made it look almost like a tiny handmade tube, but I couldn’t see any obvious opening or sign of what had made it.
After searching around the bathroom, we finally realized that it probably hadn’t been placed there by anyone. It was something that had been made naturally by a tiny creature living in the house.
In the end, we discovered that it was a plaster bagworm (household casebearer) case — a small larva that builds a protective case around itself using dust, fibers, hair, and other tiny pieces of debris.
