I’m Positive You Will Not Know What This Is.

The younger generation of today would have no idea what a walkman, landline phone, or VHS cassette even is. It has been incredible to watch as everyday home objects that have been in use for years can suddenly become antiquated, having grown up in an era of rapid technological innovation.

To be honest, until I saw a picture of it, I had no idea what the object below was. I didn’t know what kind of metal tool it was beyond that. Is this something you can recognize and remember?

Do you recognize anything? It’s an antique nozzle for opening oil cans! This item looks ancient, but it’s actually quite contemporary—it was made in the 1980s. Back then, people would use the tool to punch a hole in the top of the container so that oil could be poured out of the spout portion. This gadget is quite great even if it has a pretty simple design.

I feel like the 1980s were only yesterday. More than 40 years has passed since the 1980s seem like a lifetime ago! Although many people don’t use these openers anymore, I’ll bet that many still have one tucked away in their garage among the tools. Naturally, a lot of people collect them—mechanics especially! Therefore, if you ever come across one of these adorable little devices at an antique store or yard sale, it might not be a bad idea to pick it up.
