My heart sank when I first saw Matilda.

We don’t know how long she was l.o ćked
in that dark basement, completely alone.

A couple bought an old house
and found her there by accident.

They were shocked by what they saw
and immediately brought Matilda to our shelter.

We contacted the previous owner,
but he said he had rented the house
for the past seven years and never returned.

He sold the house without knowing
that a living soul was t.r αpped inside.

Matilda was severely emaciated,
her skin badly infected and fragile.

Her legs were deformed
from a long lack of calcium and care.

She couldn’t tolerate bright light,
after spending so long in complete darkness.

Her nails were overgrown and curled,
never once trimmed.

Everything that could go wrong
in a dog’s life… happened to her.

And yet, somehow,
there was still hope in her eyes.

Matilda was gentle, calm,
and incredibly well-behaved.

She stayed obedient
through every moment of her treatment.

She needed sunlight for her skin to heal,
and proper nutrition to rebuild her body.

Slowly, day by day,
she began to improve.

Her body responded to care,
her strength started coming back.

And then one day…
she smiled for the first time
when we held her in our arms.

You’re doing so well, Matilda.

Not long after that,
she found a home.

She gained weight,
and new fur slowly began to grow.

She is still healing,
and there is a long road ahead.

But she keeps fighting.

And now… she is no longer alone.

Her past is behind her.

From this moment on,
she will only know love.
