At first, I thought it was some kind of mold… then maybe insects… and at one point I even joked that it looked like something out of a h.o ŕror movie.
It was coming straight out of the tile joint, spreading in thin, dark, hair-like strands. The longer we stared at it, the c.r ℮epier it got. The bathroom was completely clean when we left, so seeing this appear out of nowhere after just 10 days made it even worse.
We didn’t want to touch it right away, so we just stood there trying to figure out what could possibly grow like that indoors.
After a bit of research (and a lot of overthinking 😅), we finally found the answer…
👉 It’s actually plant roots.
Yes — real roots. They likely came from a tree or plant outside (or even under the building), found a tiny crack, and started growing through the tile because of the moisture in the bathroom. Those thin “hair-like” strands are feeder roots searching for water.
Completely natural… but definitely not something you expect to see inside your bathroom.
Safe to say, that was NOT the welcome-home surprise we were hoping for.
👇 What would you have thought this was?
