My little daughter found this outside and thought it was a rock, so she brought it home. When I saw it, I f.r σze for a moment, then spent a long time looking at it, trying to understand what it is—but I still can’t figure it out. Does anyone know what this could be?
At first glance, it really did look like some kind of tiny stone… smooth, round, almost harmless. But the more I stared at it, the stranger it became. There was something unsettling about its shape, especially the darker part at the front.
I picked it up carefully and turned it over in my hand. That’s when I noticed what looked like small, curved hooks… almost like claws or tiny fangs. That’s when my imagination started running wild. Was it part of an insect? Some kind of shell? Or something much weirder?
My daughter kept asking if it was alive. Honestly, I wasn’t even sure what to answer. It definitely didn’t look like something you’d normally find just lying around outside.
I spent quite a while examining it, zooming in with my phone, trying to figure out what I was actually holding. The texture, the shape, those strange dark “hooks”… everything about it felt unusual.
Eventually, curiosity got the better of me, and I decided to look it up and ask around.
And the answer turned out to be both simple and a little surprising…
👉 It’s actually the head of a beetle larva (a grub), with its tiny mandibles still attached.
